Safety Alerts

2020 Alerts

This webpage is intended to keep consumers apprised of important safety alerts when it comes to GFCO’s attention that its certification marks are being improperly used on non-certified products. The information on this page is current to the best of GFCO’s knowledge, but GFCO does not warrant that this is an exhaustive list of all mislabeling that may occur in the marketplace. Again, if you have questions or concerns about a specific product, you should contact GFCO directly prior to consuming or using the product.

February 19, 2020 Update – Nature’s Earthly Choice Lentil Trio

After further review with the manufacturer, GFCO has determined that the two lots of Nature’s Earthly Choice Lentil Trio that are currently under investigation (Best By dates of 09-29-2020 and 10-01-2020) were manufactured after the removal of this product from the company’s GFCO certificate in May 2018. Therefore, these products and any other packages with a Best-By date on or after 11-31-19, were not certified gluten-free by GFCO, and should not have been sold bearing the GFCO logo. In the interest of public safety, GFCO is continuing to work to determine the gluten content of these products. If you have purchased this product, look through the package contents carefully to ensure that they contain only lentils before consuming. We will post updates to this alert as they are available.

February 19, 2020

GFCO has become aware that products manufactured by Sticky Fingers Bakeries are being displayed online bearing the GFCO logo, while retail product has been found with an ingredient list that contains wheat flour. The GFCO certification of all Sticky Fingers products was terminated in July of 2019, and the manufacturer of the products prior to that date has provided us with a copy of their packaging proof for the Meyer Lemon Scone Mix, which did not list wheat flour. We are contacting Sticky Fingers to have all references to GFCO removed from their website and current packaging. Consumers who have purchased Sticky Fingers brand products that carry the GFCO logo are asked to Contact GFCO and report the product name along with the best-by date/lot number. Please also submit photos of the ingredient list if it contains wheat flour.

February 11, 2020

GFCO has become aware that two packages from separate lots of Nature’s Earthly Choice Lentil Trio were found to contain multiple grains other than lentils. The lots in question have Best By dates of 09-29-2020 and 10-01-2020. GFCO is currently working to determine the gluten content of these non-lentil grains. At this point we cannot definitively say that the products exceed the GFCO 10 ppm threshold, but we would recommend that consumers use caution. If you have purchased this product, look through the package contents carefully to ensure that they contain only lentils before consuming, and report any concerns to GFCO using our Contact page. We will post updates to this alert as they are available.
